Amethyst

Amethyst is the most desired and most beautiful variety of quartz. The Egyptians, the Etruscans, and the ancient Romans already knew it, it was ascribed a magical power. In the Middle Ages, it was also highly valued in Europe, also called the bishop’s stone. Amethyst is a stone of love. Before finding a diamond, it was equal to its price. The name can come from old-Hebrew, Assyrian, and Arabic. Greek “amethystos” means something like no wine, wine protection – drunkenness. It belongs to the hexagonal system.
