Crocoite is a mineral consisting of lead chromate, PbCrO4 and crystallizes in a monoclinic system. It is formed by the weathering of PbS2 galenite in an environment of chromium-rich igneous rocks. The composition is identical to the artificial chrome yellow pigment. Among the collectors, it is popular and prized for its aesthetic qualities.
