Description

Tourmaline is a very complex borosilicate series of elements, mostly Na, Li, Al, Fe, Mg and Ca. The name comes from Singhalese turamali – multicoloured. The early history of the schorl shows that the name “Schorl” was in use prior to the year 1400 because a village known today as Zschorlau (in Saxony, Germany) was then named “Schorl” (or minor variants of this name). Trigonal crystal system.
